Hoboken Engagement Photos
Being in Hoboken always has me hearing Frank Sinatra tunes in my head. It is both hip and quaint and a city I wish I discovered earlier in my life to properly enjoy! It’s still in New Jersey but boasts breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, making it very ideal to travel to for this NJ based photographer!
I met Kat & Gary outside of Sorrelina restaurant to kick off their engagement session. Right away I praised Kat on her fashion choice of a black and yellow print dress, which she paired elegantly with suede chestnut boots and naturally with her beautiful auburn hair! (Did I mention I have always wanted to try red hair? Think I could pull it off??). I LOVE prints on dresses and don’t see them as often as I’d like. If you’re a client of mine and concerned about your outfit’s print for photographs, I always encourage you to send me a picture beforehand. Proper wardrobe is a crucial element to making a good photograph!
Kat & Gary were naturals in front of the camera. Turns out Gary and I have the same alma mater (go Dukes!). We giggled up and down the side streets searching for the perfect row homes to stand in front of (and garbage cans to block out! Always the struggle with city locations). It was very close to Halloween when we had our shoot and finding a home not donned with pumpkins or a giant blow-up spider proved quite a challenge!
Alas, we got some stunning soft focus close-ups of the happy couple here. While I love photos that showcase the landscape or locale, my favorites always end up being the close-ups of a couple’s faces, looking happy, holding so much potential in their smiles for the beautiful journey they’re about to embark on.
We wrapped up our session just in time for golden hour near the water. It was so much fun capturing these love birds with their current hometown as a backdrop. I love the portrait of Gary dipping Kat in front of the skyline!
Where to Go in Hoboken for your Engagement Photos
Knowing the right spots to hit in Hoboken can be baffling. The town is just over two square miles, but highly populated.
The rule of thumb that I have learned is for better views of the NYC skyline with the Freedom Tower, head to downtown Hoboken. There is also a cobblestone street there and the historic train station you can use. Check out Isabel & Ethan’s Downtown Hoboken Engagement Session to see for yourself!
For more of a classic brownstone feel, head to uptown Hoboken. There are still views of the NYC skyline, more with the Empire State Building, but you can catch the Freedom Tower in there too. Kat & Gary’s session was taken in uptown Hoboken. We spent time on Bloomfield and Garden Streets scouting our favorite brownstone homes to use before heading to Maxwell Place Park for portraits by the Hudson River.
