It’s finally time for your engagement session and you’re wondering – what on Earth do we wear?!

Engagement sessions are so much fun and provide so many benefits. They give you a chance to meet and interact with your photographer in-person before your wedding day (moi!), and most importantly, prepare you with the poses, prompts and confidence needed to nail your portraits at the BIG event.

There are a lot of factors that play into choosing which colors and/or patterns to wear to your engagement session, including the time of year, your skin and hair tones and colors of the location.

This loving couple joined me on a perfect weather evening in Asbury Park, New Jersey for their sweet summertime engagement session! The breeze and the water temperature were just beautiful. I wish I’d brought my bathing suit to hop in! Jill & Tom were so laid back and down for any location and any pose suggested. My favorite part was strolling through the sandbar with them for some giggly and cute kisses shots. I also really loved the dramatic and industrial background of the old Asbury Park casino building. We got to that section of the boardwalk just in time before the sun went down! I am so excited for Jill & Tom’s wedding at The Shore Club next spring. I can’t wait to capture even more stunning shots of this photogenic couple of cuties!

When preparing for your family photo shoot, it’s important to coordinate your outfits for a cohesive look. Select a color scheme and use colors that complement each other. Avoid everyone wearing the same thing to look too matchy-matchy and logos. Some should be in patterns, while others should be in plain colors. Consider the location you’re taking photos, the time of year, your skin tones, even where in your home you plan to hang these photos. Lay out everyone’s outfit next to each other (if you can) beforehand to see if there’s a nice flow.

This adorable couple joined me on a sunkissed evening in Manasquan, New Jersey for their sweet summertime engagement session! The lighting was just beautiful. Michele & Alex weren’t afraid to get their feet wet (literally) so we had so much fun splashing around in the surf for some candid shots. The two had an infectious laugh and giggled the whole time! I am so excited for their Asbury Park wedding next spring! It is going to be a beautiful wedding day and if it’s anything like our engagement session together, I know it’ll be an absolutely amazing day.
